Kaplan showed that the protective effect of 5ARI drugs extended across the symptom spectrum, ie, even men with mild symptoms were at risk if they had large prostates; thus the risk reduction from the 5ARI drugs applied meaningfully to men on the left side of the chart (few symptoms) as well as on the right side (many symptoms).
